Rigging: Planning the articulation

Before rigging both bipedal characters and both cars, we discussed in the pre-production phase what

style of animation would be used and how the characters would be portrayed. This would have to be

Mator, Pixars "Cars"

reflected in the rig to allow the animation to be as stylised as we wanted. The main inspiration for these rigs were characters like Mator from "Cars" as well as looking at other other car rigs available. One that heavily influenced the car rigs was "AS Cartoon Car Rig" by Adriano Sanna, which is available on Creative Crash.

With these styles in mind I was able to use this to further research how these styles could be implemented in the rig to help portray the cars own individual personality. As far as the bipedal human characters I had planned to incorporate ribbon joints for the arms and legs, which would allow for expressive posing, similar to that of the characters in "Horton hears a Who"
