Simulation - Tests

Early into the project, I began to test fluid simulations in an attempt to create the tire 'burning out'. The reason we looked into this, is because it is a simple way of showing the car building up speed and to simply make the scene look more exaggerated to further fit the animation.

I created this effect using Maya and its settings to create a 'smoky' fluid. To create the effect that the tire was making the smoke, I attached multiple 'FluidEmitters' to the tire, so as the tire span, the smoke would also spin around. Then, as the car moved forward, the smoke would then get left behind, creating the effect of a smoke trail. This effect was improved by using 'Forces' such as 'turbulenceField' and 'uniformField', which added a more natural flow to the fluid. I experimented with the settings, specifically the 'Density' of the fluid, to eventually create a natural amount of smoke. Finally, I added the preset texture 'PxrVolume' and edited it, so that the fluid could be rendered through Renderman.

Sadly, the effect would not make it into the final animation, due to restraints in other areas of the animation that were a higher priority.
